About Us
Welcome to Mountain Home, the monthly magazine of the Twin Tiers and beyond, with 20,000 copies distributed at more than 250 popular places each month. I’m Teresa Capuzzo, the editor and publisher of Mountain Home, and here’s who we are, in a nutshell.
An Award-Winning Magazine
Mountain Home has won Best Niche Publication in Pennsylvania seven times in the last eleven years, along with several other prestigious Keystone Press Awards from the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association for best writing, best photography, best design and layout—every part of our magazine has been recognized for excellence in categories that go up against The Philadelphia Business Review, the Central Penn Business Review, and all the weeklies in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
A National Reputation
Lee Kravitz, editor of PARADE (65 million readers), says, “Mountain Home is fabulous. Nobody stands up for good writing like Mountain Home. And it throws its heart and soul into its region.” Our vision is that readers crave positive local stories with classic storytelling and art.
Beloved by Our Readers
Dr. Edmund Guelig of Laurel Health System in Wellsboro says, “Mountain Home is a fantastic magazine. It reminds me how beautiful our area is, and it gives me hope—it’s a great public service.” Ask about our rave testimonials from all age groups across our region.
A Partner with Our Advertisers
At Brookside Homes, the large regional home builder in Selingsgrove and Mansfield, they’re used to customers coming in the office with Mountain Home magazine, pointing to their full-page full-color ad featuring a $180,000 home, and saying, “I want this one!” We serve the small advertiser, too, like “Mama Biscotti” in Sayre, who says advertising with us made her business and changed her life!
The Largest Readership
Our readers pick up Mountain Home at TOPS, Wegmans and other grocery stores, popular restaurants, gas stations, hotels, motels, visitors centers and tourist bureaus. You’ll see our magazines in the stylish Night and Day Coffee Cafe in Mansfield to Watkins Glen, in Acorn markets, and more than forty Dandy Mini-Marts in New York and Pennsylvania. We also have subscribers all over the country who miss home or own second homes here. No other area publication is so widely read.
The Biggest Bang
Whether you’re a large regional advertiser or the corner candy shop, we reach the most readers at the most affordable price with the biggest bang for your buck—the most readers in Tioga County, PA, our home base; the most readers across the Northern Tier, and the most regionally from the Finger Lakes to Montoursville. Our readers go further than that—they save Mountain Home as a keepsake, they gift their Aunt Sally a subscription, they rave about our magazine in person and online. Typically, less than 1 percent of our magazines are returned, and we put those few copies out later—and people still pick them up even a year later.
Local Owners You Can Trust
I grew up in Tioga County, PA, attended Wellsboro High School and Dickinson College, was the restaurant critic of Philadelphia magazine and author of two books, and moved back home with my husband, Mike Capuzzo, to publish Mountain Home. Mike graduated from Northwestern University, was a reporter for eight years for The Philadelphia Inquirer, which submitted his work four times for the Pulitzer Prize, and is the author of The New York Times bestsellers The Murder Room and Close to Shore. We own Mountain Home with well-known Philadelphia lawyer George Bochetto, the former state Boxing Commissioner under Gov. Tom Ridge.
