A Walk in Penn's Woods

Join the Dauphin County Woodland Owners Association, Manada Conservancy, and the DCNR Bureau of Forestry as we host a Walk In Penn’s Woods at the Paul Troutman Forest Demonstration Area on the Haldeman Tract of the Weiser State Forest, near Elizabethville, PA. This program is free and open to the public.

Anyone interested in forestry and wildlife related topics is encouraged to attend. This walk will feature an easy 1 mile hike through the Demonstration Area with discussion led by DCNR Service Forester Andy Brought. The purpose of the demonstration area is to provide a learning opportunity to the public on timber harvesting techniques by showing how a forest develops after the harvest. Timber harvesting is a very complex procedure that involves thoughtful planning and coordination of all parties involved including the property owner, forester, and timber buyer. Furthermore, the demonstration area displays how different harvesting methods are applied for healthy/sustainable future forests, clean air and water, wildlife habitat, and recreational opportunities.
