Sue Coe: A Retrospective
Lore Degenstein Gallery to Feature Activist Artist
The Lore Degenstein Gallery at Susquehanna University will launch its first exhibition of 2019, Sue Coe: A Retrospective, with an opening reception on Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. The exhibition runs through March 6. All gallery events are free and open to the public.
Sue Coe is a contemporary English artist noted for her intensely political graphic illustrations and activism.
Born in 1951 in Staffordshire, England, Coe grew up near a slaughterhouse, which helped instill a lifelong passion for animal rights activism. This political sensibility characterizes Coe’s work, which often explicitly makes animal rights and other social issues its central subject.
Coe uses painting, printmaking and a realistic drawing style to depict cruelty against animals, sweatshops, prisons, AIDS, war and anti-capitalism throughout her work.
The Lore Degenstein Gallery, located in the Charles B. Degenstein Campus Center, is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is closed during university recesses. Call 570-372-4059 for an appointment when classes are not in session.
