Free Jazz Concert
Williamsport City Jazz Orchestra
The special sounds of summer continue on Sunday August 30th, 7:00 PM at Brandon Park, Williamsport, with the Williamsport City Jazz Orchestra. The band features the area’s best jazz artists in an all-star big band concert. Musicians include trumpet greats Eddie Severn and Dale Orris; saxophone soloists Dick Adams and Larry Fisher; trombone power houses Mark Lusk and Kevin Henry; and a smokin' rhythm section comprised of city favorites Steve Adams, Matt Radspinner, Tim Breon, and Bobby Leidhecker.
This event also features several high school students from around the area who will sit in with the band on two tunes: Count Basie's One O'Clock Jump and Benny Carter's Easy Money. This is part of the jazz orchestra’s educational purpose. Additionally, a collaboration with the Uptown Music Collective means that Uptown jazz students will also take to the stage.
WCJO will include tunes from Broadway for this concert: Beauty and the Beast and I Got Plenty of Nuttin from Porgy and Bess. Evergreen classics such as Norwegian Wood, Cherokee, One Note Samba, Nutville, and Caravan are also on the menu.
The concert is sponsored by the Woodcock Foundation for the Appreciation of the Arts and by Marlin and Brenda Shirey Cromley. Admission is free and the rain location is Clarke Chapel on the Lycoming College campus.
