The Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra

A Band of Ukulele's Kick Off 2015 at the Community Arts Center

Hailing from the home of The Hobbit movies, the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra will bring an irresistible New Zealand heartland feel to the Community Arts Center’s stage in Williamsport on Thursday, January 8 in 2015. Since their first sold-out show in December 2005, the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra have become one of New Zealand’s most beloved live acts. The band grew rapidly from their early beginnings in a tiny Wellington café, when acclaimed Wellington musician Age Pryor cooked up the scheme with his friend Bret McKenzie (who is kept very busy these days with even bigger projects). Word spread to the other side of the café and within a few months, a dozen of the capital city’s most beguiling personalities had gathered to lovingly reinterpret hit songs from across the musical generations. The Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra presents the ukulele as it’s never been played before, featuring songs made famous by artists such as Justin Timberlake, Dolly Parton, Elvis, The Beatles, Hall and Oates, Cyndi Lauper, Prince, Kenny Rogers and Kings of Leon, alongside tunes from the South Pacific, packaged into a spectacular, unmissable funfest.
