A Second Symphony, and Now a Second Home By the Mountain Home staff

Some folks live downstate and have a second home in northern Pennsylvania. Stephen Gunzenhauser has a job downstate – artistic director and conductor of the Lancaster Symphony – and a second symphony in Wellsboro.

Now Gunzenhauser, the artistic director and conductor of the Endless Mountain Music Festival in Wellsboro and Mansfield, has a second home in Wellsboro, too.

He and his wife Shelly, a nurse, recently bought an historic Wellsboro house near downtown, where they are enjoying the summer leading up to the second Endless Mountain Music Festival, the international music fest that Gunzenhauser brought to the area last summer. (This year’s festival, “Beethoven Meets the Blues,” is fifteen concerts from July 28 through August 12. For more information, see the Mountain Home Guide, and www.endlessmountain.net).

“Wellsboro is our Camelot, our very special place,” says Gunzenhauser. He and Shelly, who share their Wellsboro home with their four-legged furry children, Buddy Gunzenhauser and Princess Diamond, never anticipated that they would find a home that would suit their needs and allow them to relax in a stress-free environment filled with “really nice people.” Gunzenhauser, who has spent a significant amount of time conducting orchestras around the globe, says, “For Shelly and I, Wellsboro is the great American small town.”
